Susan Sarandon's acting career started in 1970 with her debut feature role in Joe. After a few sporadic appearances in films and TV shows, Sarandon made a notable appearance as Janet in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975).
During the '80s, Sarandon began to see her star rise, starting with an Oscar nomination for her appearance in Atlantic City. In 1982 she won Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her role in Tempest, then in 1987, she starred alongside Jack Nicholson and Cher in The Witches of Eastwick. A year later, she met her husband, actor Tim Robbins while shooting the film Bull Durham.
In 1991 Sarandon starred in her most well known film, Thelma & Louise. Four years later, she picked up her first Academy Award for her part in Dead Man Walking (1995). Since the turn of the century, Sarandon has had many notable roles, including in Elizabethtown (2005), Enchanted (2007) and in the FX mini series Feud: Bette and Joan (2017) which she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for her portrayal of Bette Davis.
