Michael Ian Black met and joined the core group of the comedy group "The State" while studying at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. The group had a brief but popular show called The State on MTV in 1993.
A stand-up comedian and actor, Black has appeared in multiple TV shows for Comedy Central, Adult Swim and Netflix. In 2001, Black made his first appearance in the Wet Hot American Summer series in a role he would later reprise in 2015 and 2017.
An accomplished writer, Black also co-wrote the script for the Simon Pegg comedy Run Fatboy Run (2007). In 2022, he starred in the critically acclaimed indie hit Linoleum.
