Martin Scorsese first won critical and popular acclaim for his independent gangster film Mean Streets (1973). This film began his six-decade career at the top of Hollywood, directing some of the most well-known films of all time. His follow-up to Mean Streets, Taxi Driver (1976), was his second film with actor Robert De Niro and went on to receive the Palme d'Or award at Cannes Film Festival that year.
Scorsese went on to direct Raging Bull (1980), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), GoodFellas (1990), Cape Fear (1991), The Age of Innocence (1993) and Casino (1995).
In the new millennium, Scorsese made the first of many collaborations with Leonardo DiCaprio in Gangs of New York (2002). The pair would go on to work together in The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Shutter Island (2010) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).
Scorsese cast Robert De Niro alongside Al Pacino and Joe Pesci in his most recent success, The Irishman (2019). The film won the praise of the critics and picked up 10 nominations at the Academy Awards.
