Born in Los Angeles, California, in 1943, Harry Shearer made his film debut in Abbott and Costello Go to Mars (1953) at the age of ten. He continued to make appearances as a child actor, including a credit as Street Kid in Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955).
Shearer joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1979, where he had many onscreen roles and worked as a writer on the show. In 1989, he started working on the animated series The Simpsons, voicing many characters, including Ned Flanders and Kent Brockman.
Shearer has made multiple appearances in films with Christopher Guest, including This is Spina Tap, A Mighty Wind (2003) and For Your Consideration (2006). He has also appeared in The Truman Show (1998) and Godzilla (1998) and has voiced characters in over 700 episodes of The Simpsons. He is currently married to singer-songwriter Judith Owen.
