Gilbert Gottfried began doing standup in New York at the age of 15. Respected by comedians, he was hired as a cast member on the TV show Saturday Night Live. As his popularity grew, he would go on to appear on MTV adverts and in The Cosby Show.
One of his first notable film roles was in Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), where he improvised in a memorable scene playing a business manager. He would go on to become known for his quirky roles in movies such as Problem Child (1990), Problem Child 2 (1991), Look Who's Talking Too (1990) and The Adventures of Ford Fairlane(1990).
Gottfried remained popular throughout his career for his rude jokes and ranting delivery. He appeared in many documentaries about the art form and boundaries of comedy, including The Aristocrats (2005) and The Last Laugh (2016). Ironically, his most notable role was in the Disney classic Aladdin (1992).
Gottfried passed away at the age of 67, leaving behind his wife and two children.
