Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, Elton John would become one of the biggest stars in pop music. His first soundtrack album was for the 1971 film Friends. The soundtrack was made with his long-time collaborator, Bernie Taupin, and was completed before the songwriters experienced any true worldwide success. The soundtrack would go on to receive a Grammy Award nomination.
Throughout the '70s and '80s, Elton John would release some of the most influential albums of all time, but his next film soundtrack album did not come until he worked on the Disney animation The Lion King (1994). Three songs from the soundtrack received Academy Award nominations, with the Oscar going to Can You Feel the Love Tonight, which he shared with lyricist Tim Rice.
John would go on to work on the soundtracks for two more animated films, The Road to El Dorado (2000) and Gnomeo & Juliet (2011). In 2019, Rocketman, a biopic about John, was released with Taron Egerton playing the musician. In 2005, he married David Furnish, and in 2018, John announced he would begin a three-year farewell tour.
