DeObia Oparei, also credited as Dhobi Oparei and Deobia Operei, is an actor and playwright born in London, England of Nigerian ancestry. He is most widely recognized for his role as Gunner in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and as Thundarian in Your Highness. In the beginning of his career, Oparei worked in small Bristish theater companies, such as Theatre De Complicite, The Royal Shakespeare Company, and The Royal National Theater. Oparei first appeared on film in the movie Alien 3, where he played a small supporting role. The next supporting role he received was in the film Moulin Rouge! as "Le Chocolat". He obtained this role after having success in John Guare's playwright Six Degrees Of Separation where he played the lead role. In addition to acting, Oparei has done work as a playwright. The first play he wrote was a dramedy about race, sexuality, and identity called Crazyblackmuthafuckin'self. It was called "wild, raunchy and funny" by The Guardian's Michael Billington and opened to critical acclaim at the Royal Court Theatre.
