One of Hollywood's biggest icons, Clint Eastwood's big-screen breakthrough came as The Man with No Name in Sergio Leone's trilogy of spaghetti westerns: A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966).
Eastwood became known for his tough guy persona during the '60s and '70s. He appeared opposite Richard Burton in Where Eagles Dare (1968) and as the titular loose canon cop in Dirty Harry (1971). By the '80s Eastwood's career started to wane, however, he did receive Palme d'Or nominations for two films which he directed, Pale Rider (1985) and, the Charlie Parker biopic, Bird (1989).
Eastwood's career bounced back in the '90s when he starred and directed in the Western Unforgiven (1992). Picking up Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Directing, the film saw him return to the genre that made Eastwood famous. Eastwood continued to make award-winning and critically acclaimed films over the next decade, including Mystic River (2003), Million Dollar Baby (2004), Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) and Gran Torino (2008).
At 91, Eastwood broke records when he became the oldest actor to appear in the lead role when he starred in Cry Macho. Released in 2021, this marked his first release of the 2020s in a career spanning 8 decades.
